Addressing Hunger Among Bangladesh's Elderly #64460-quarterly report-#02

1/21/2025

Addressing hunger among the elderly population in Bangladesh poses several challenges, including financial dependency, health problems, and social isolation, which significantly affect their food security. To tackle these issues, the following initiatives can be effective:

  1. Social Protection Programs: Expanding social protection programs to provide food assistance and subsidies tailored to the needs of the elderly.
  2. Accessible Healthcare: Ensuring accessible and free healthcare services so that elderly individuals can maintain a healthy diet and consume nutritious, natural foods.
  3. Community Initiatives: Launching food distribution programs through local organizations and NGOs, particularly in remote and underserved areas. The Global Community Organization (GCO) has taken steps to address this pressing issue. Through its partnership with the Global Giving Foundation Inc., GCO is currently distributing nutritious meals to elderly individuals in need. Presently, food assistance is being provided to five elderly people, with plans to expand the initiative in phases as additional support becomes available. With adequate funding and support, this project has the potential to extend its reach to all elderly people at the grassroots level, ensuring that no one is left behind in the fight against hunger.
